Governance and Engagement

Our corporate governance framework should help give you the peace of mind that your clients’ money is being looked after by a strong and tightly controlled company.

Our corporate values are embedded in everything we do, and they include:

Prudence in Risk Management
Our prudent approach to risk management underpins our capacity for growth in the generation of long-term value for investors.

Professional Ethics and Sustainability
In addition to strict compliance with laws, codes of conduct and internal regulations, all Santander Asset Management employees work with the utmost transparency and honesty.

Independent Risk Management
We understand that risk management must be approached from several angles, so we have invested in the necessary resources to ensure strict control in every aspect of our business, from market and portfolio risk to legal risk. We have three lines of defence:

  1. Risk and Control
The Risk and Control division is an independent, centralised function which ensures the processes, policies and rules within the corporate and regulatory governance for Santander Asset Management UK are adhered to. It follows four key principles: independence, objectivity, transparency and accuracy. Established as Santander Asset Management's first global team over 10 years ago, the independence of our Risk and Control division demonstrates the fundamental importance of risk prudence to our business.

  2. Compliance Function
Compliance is a control function responsible for UK regulatory conduct risk. Its tasks involve providing interpretation of regulations and disseminating to business units, monitoring adherence to regulations, performing risk-based compliance monitoring and advising on regulatory issues.

  3. Risk Assurance
The Risk Assurance function is provided by the Internal Audit department. It offers an independent review and challenge of Santander Asset Management UK’s risk management controls, processes and systems, including conduct risk-related issues.
